The Terroir

Located about a hundred kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean on the slopes of Baleyssagues, the vineyard of Château La Grave Béchade is adjacent to Bordeaux vineyards, situated in the natural extension of the Entre-Deux-Mers plateau and surrounded by the Bordeaux Ste Foy vineyards. It benefits from the oceanic influence, which provides a temperate climate, moderately marked in autumn by occasional rainy episodes.

The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils, and the entire vineyard is contiguous. All the lands are within the controlled designation of origin “Côtes de Duras”.

The vineyard

The estate covers an area of 7.89 hectares. The vineyard is planted with a density of 4,000 vines per hectare, with a spacing of 2.5 meters by 1 meter. The pruning method used is Guyot simple.

The average age of the vineyard is around 7 years.
Distribution of grape varieties by average age:

  • Cabernet sauvignon : 7 years
  • Vidoc : 4 years
  • Sauvignon gris : 7 years
